Source Integrity & Anti-Duplication Protection

What is Source Integrity Protection?
Our unique system ensures that each role in a historical source (child, parent, witness, party, etc.) can only be linked to one person profile. This prevents the common genealogy mistake where the same record gets attributed to multiple people.
Why can't I link this source to my ancestor?
If a source role is already claimed by another profile, it means someone has already linked that specific role to a different person. You can view the existing connection and discuss with the community if you believe there's an error.
How do I resolve source conflicts?
When you believe a source is incorrectly attributed, start a community discussion. Present your evidence, and work with other researchers to reach consensus on the correct attribution.
Can one person have multiple sources?
Absolutely! While each source role can only be claimed once, individuals can accumulate evidence from many sources throughout their lives: birth records, marriage certificates, children's baptisms, property deeds, wills, and more.

Collaborative Research

How does consensus-driven genealogy work?
When researchers disagree about connections or evidence, we encourage respectful discussion. Present your sources, examine others' evidence, and work together to determine the most likely truth based on available documentation.
What if I disagree with other researchers?
Disagreement is normal in genealogy! Focus on the evidence, not personal preferences. Share your sources clearly, ask questions about others' research, and remain open to changing your mind when presented with stronger evidence.
How do I add sources properly?
Always include complete citation information: document type, date, location, archive reference, and page numbers. Describe exactly how the person is mentioned in the source and your confidence level in the connection.
What about living relatives?
Information about living individuals (born within 100 years or without recorded death dates) is restricted to protect privacy. Only add living people with their explicit consent.

Frequently Asked Questions

I can't find my Welsh ancestor in the database
Our database is continuously growing. If your ancestor isn't listed yet, you can add them! Make sure to include proper sources and documentation. Focus on connecting to existing Welsh tribal lines where possible.
How do I reset my password?
Use the "Forgot Password" link on the login page. Enter your email address, and we'll send you instructions to create a new password. If you don't receive the email, check your spam folder.
Why is my edit not showing up?
Some changes may require community review, especially those affecting well-established genealogical connections. Your contribution is saved and will be reviewed by other researchers.
Can I download my family tree?
Yes! You can export your research in standard genealogy formats (GEDCOM). This allows you to use the data in other genealogy software while maintaining your connection to the Gwirachau community.
How do I report inappropriate content?
Use the "Report" button on any profile or discussion, or contact our support team directly. We take community standards seriously and will investigate all reports promptly.
What makes Gwirachau different from other genealogy sites?
We focus exclusively on Welsh genealogy with collaborative, consensus-driven research. Our Source Integrity system prevents duplicate records, and we emphasize tribal connections and cultural heritage over individual family trees.
